Things to Know About Visiting a Pumpkin Patch

Why should I visit a Pumpkin Patch near Vancouver?

One of the best things to do in Vancouver in Fall is to visit a pumpkin patch. It’s a lot of fun strolling around the pumpkin patch with friends, getting some cute photos and maybe even picking out your own pumpkin to carve. You could even combine visiting a pumpkin patch with going to the Scariest Corn Maze in Canada at Mann Farms.

This is something I’ve done twice since being in Canada and it’s so scary that I actually don’t think I have it in me to do it again for a while lol. It’s extremely impressive though.

Tips for visiting Pumpkin Patches near Vancouver

  • Best time to go: To avoid the crowds try to go on a weekday instead of the weekend. Early October is also less busy than the end of October.
  • What to wear: Pumpkin patches can be dusty and muddy and Fall weather can be unpredictable so make sure you bring your rain gear. I also recommend wearing boots in the field if you can, but make them cute for photos. 😉
  • Things to bring: Cash for food and drinks, your camera and some extra layers in case it gets cold.
  • Looking for a cozy spot to stay nearby? I have put together a list of my favourite hotels in Vancouver.

Mann Farms Pumpkin Patch (Abbotsford)

Mann Farms is awesome. There are goats, pumpkins, Halloween horror nights and the famous corn maze! They also have designated dog days where you can bring your dogs to the pumpkin patch and the day time corn maze! Maybe we will be going back this year with Winnie after all. 😅

Tave’s Family Farm (Abbotsford)

Tave’s farm has it all! They have a magical pumpkin patch in the Fall AND you can go apple picking and say hi to the farm animals. It’s such a beautiful farm too and great for photos.

Oh and did I mention they make their own cider? You NEED to try their Pumpkin Cider because it tastes like Fall in a can. So so good! Not only is Tave’s farm so pretty with delicious ciders but you can bring your dog! Winnie had a blast running through the pumpkin patch and saying hi to everyone.

Richmond Country Farms (Richmond)

I really like the sound of this one. This is a family run farm that has tractor wagon rides, lively music, and festive atmosphere. There are rows of pumpkins, farm animals and even costumed characters greeting guests on weekends, making it a great choice for families with young kids. There is also a winery on site which I always appreciate.

Aldor Acres (Langley)

At Aldor Acres, it’s like stepping into the heart of harvest season. It has its own farm market with fresh produce and homemade goodies and there are loads of animals to interact with like piglets and goats. With its pumpkin fields and a charming farm vibe, it’s popular with families and also with couples wanting a slower-paced day on the farm.

Laity Pumpkin Patch (Maple Ridge)

Laity Pumpkin Patch in Maple Ridge is split into two sides. One for kids and the other for all ages. The family friendly side has a hay wagon ride, mystical woods to wander through, a family corn maze and more.

The other side is ideal for photo ops and wandering through the fields but also has a pumpkin canyon (yes you read that right), a Western pumpkin town (great for photos), farmer obstacle course, farm animals, a corn maze and race maze and more!

Southlands Heritage Farm (Vancouver)

Southlands Heritage Farm is located in Vancouver’s Southlands neighbourhood, so is the closest pumpkin patch to Vancouver. It offers a more intimate, community-focused pumpkin patch with horses, chickens, and a rustic barn setting. It’s not as big or commercial as other patches, but that’s part of the charm. It’s the perfect choice if you don’t have time to drive out of the city but still want to experience a quieter fall moment.

frequently asked questions

Most pumpkin patches around Vancouver open in late September and run through to Halloween at the end of October. I recommend checking each farm’s website for opening times before you go, as dates can vary slightly from year to year and farm to farm.

Some pumpkin patches do allow dogs on leash, but it really depends on the farm. For example, Tave’s Farm allows dogs, Southlands Heritage Farm is more pet-friendly than others and Mann Farms has designated dog days. But like anywhere, you need to always double-check the farm’s pet policy online before bringing your pup.

This depends on the pumpkin patch. The bigger and more popular ones like Richmond Country Farms or Mann Farms recommend or even require advanced booking, but others you cannot even book online and just need to show up and pay at the gate. Check the farm’s website for their booking policy.

Pumpkin patches are open rain or shine so prepare for any weather and bring your wet weather gear. Do keep in mind that rain brings mud so wear boots (something you don’t mind getting dirty). We got stuck in the pouring rain at a tulip field near Vancouver last year which was annoying but it just couldn’t be helped because that’s when we had our tickets booked for.

Most pumpkin patches are pick your pumpkin and take it home to carve kinda places, but some may offer carving stations or themed activities for kids. It’s not super common though. If carving is part of your day plan, I recommend grabbing your pumpkins early and heading home for a cozy night of carving.

This all comes down to personal preference and what sort of vibe you are going for. Each of the pumpkin patches on this list have their own personal charm and I feel like it’s impossible to pick the best one.

My thoughts

This is my all time favourite Fall activity in Vancouver and I can’t wait for this year to explore another new pumpkin patch. I will keep you all posted on where I go and what I think of it.

Otherwise, I definitely recommend Maan Farms for the full Halloween experience. It does get crowded there on weekends however so if you can go during the week, do it!
