Hi! We’re Kerry and Dave!
We are photographers, content creators and weekend warriors originally from Sydney Australia now based in Vancouver Canada!
We both work 9-5 jobs but on the weekends we spend as much time as possible exploring the outdoors – hiking, camping, finding cute cabins and of course taking photos on all of our adventures!
Our Story

We met back in October 2015 on Tinder and Kerry spent the next 1.5 years convincing Dave that it was a good idea to do a 5 week trip to Peru, Mexico and the USA. This trip finally happened in 2017 where we did the Inca Trail, went to the Amazon, swam with Whale Sharks in Mexico and ticked Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons and a road trip with Utah off our bucketlist! Oh yeah, we also added a day in Disneyland in Anaheim onto our very last day because we are all about squeezing as much fun and adventuring as possible into a holiday ? It’s safe to say that this was the most epic holiday ever and its also where we decided that we wanted to buy a camera together and learn about photography. (At the time we both had point and shoot cameras which actually both broke on this holiday!) Once we arrived back from our epic trip, we decided to move in together.

Our next trip together was in 2019 to New Zealand on a campervan trip (Kerry planned the whole trip as a surprise for Dave’s birthday). You can read all about our New Zealand trip here

We also went to Hawaii in the same year which is where Dave proposed! (The video is on our stories on our Instagram @oceanus_adventure if you want to check it out ?).

After 2019, we came to the conclusion that we wanted to move to Canada and we arranged our Visas and planned everything to be set and ready to go for June 2020. You can guess how that turned out! Our plans were postponed and about 1.5 years later we had almost given up and were trying desperately to decide what to do.
In the meantime, we tried to do as much exploring have go on as many road trips as possible in Australia but this was extremely hard with lockdowns that made us unable to leave even our 10km radius around our house! We were extremely lucky and managed to squeeze in a roadtrip to South West Australia in between domestic borders opening and closing. It was absolutely incredible! Check out our Ultimate Western Australia Itinerary here. We also did a road trip to Byron Bay at some stage during COVID which was such a nice getaway.

Eventually the Vaccine arrived and with it HOPE! But the borders were still a problem. If we left Australia and things didn’t work out in Canada and we couldn’t get back, it would be a disaster! We just didn’t want to risk this. Finally, restrictions looked like they were easing a little and we decided that things were moving in the right direction so we pulled the trigger!
It was SUCH a relief to finally make a decision but there was another complication that we had to sort out and that was our wedding that we had been waiting and waiting for and planning since 2019! We had originally planned to go to Canada in 2020 and then come back and get married in 2022 but it was now late 2021 and if we went to Canada now, we would be booking flights to return to Australia for our wedding in just a few months time!
The other issue was that our Visas were going to expire before our wedding so we couldn’t wait to go to Canada after our wedding. It was NOW or NEVER. That was when we realised we had to push our wedding back even further to May 2023.. This was a devastating realisation because we had been waiting so so long and just wanted to be married already but Kerry had also been dreaming about a big wedding her whole life and wasn’t sure if she was willing to give it up. We knew something had to give though. We couldn’t have it all…or could we?

Enter, the realisation that we COULD have it all! We were moving to Canada, having our big white wedding AND we weren’t going to have to wait to get married. We decided to have a tiny elopement with immediate family only and our wonderful celebrant themindfulcelebrant.
We pulled together a little ceremony over just a few weeks with the help of family. We spent an afternoon scouting for elopement locations and found most perfect spot! The elopement was more magical than we could have ever hoped for and we have absolutely no regrets! 2 days after getting married we were on a flight to Canada and everything felt like a dream. (It kind of still does). We now have an apartment and are feeling settled in Vancouver and absolutely cannot wait for the adventures that are awaiting us this year! We would love to have you follow us along on our adventures on our Instagram @oceanus_adventure
