Looking for the best places to stay in Leavenworth for Christmas? This magical Bavarian town in Washington State is the most Christmassy town there ever was in North America so it’s no wonder that it’s a super popular holiday getaway. Think Winter Wonderland vibes, Christmas lights, festive music ringing down the street and loads of cute taverns with good food and beer!

Dave and I spent a weekend near Leavenworth in December and were completely swept up in the festivities. From sipping mulled wine to wandering through town under glowing lights, it is the kind of place that actually feels like a Hallmark movie set.

We stayed in a nearby town called Skykomish at this cozy cabin which was the perfect base, but I think it would be nice to stay in town next time so that we don’t have to deal with the traffic in Leavenworth.

In this guide, I’ll help you find the perfect place to stay for your own Leavenworth Christmas trip, whether you’re visiting for a romantic weekend, a family holiday getaway or a fun trip away with friends. I’ve rounded up the best Christmassy hotels, cabins and nearby alternatives based on location and vibe.

Where to Stay in Leavenworth for Christmas

Tip for staying in Leavenworth

  • BOOK EARLY! As soon as you know that you want to visit Leavenworth in December, book a hotel because otherwise you will miss out. This is one of the most popular towns to visit for Christmas in the US and so hotels get snatched up way ahead of time.
  • If you can, try to visit during the week to avoid some of the crowds and to get better prices for hotels. Weekends are expensive.
  • I recommend staying in Leavenworth itself so that you don’t have to deal with the drive in with all the traffic and the horrible struggle of finding a parking spot (yes, this was us).

The Best Places to Stay in Leavenworth for Christmas – all the details

Here is a summary of the best places to stay in Leavenworth depending on what you are looking for. Once you have booked your hotel and are ready to start planning what to do on your Christmassy getaway, have a read of my guide, Things to do in Leavenworth at Christmas to help plan your trip.

Best hotel within walking distance to EVERYTHING

Name: Alpen Dorf Pension
Type of accommodation: Family rooms with kitchenettes
Location: Leavenworth – right in the centre of town
Cost: $300- $500 a night

The Alpen Dorf Pension is great for families with large hotel rooms with kitchenettes and located right in the middle of Leavenworth Town so that you don’t need to worry about parking.

Best hotel for those on a budget

Name: Howard Johnson by Wyndham Leavenworth
Type of accommodation: Basic pet friendly hotel
Location: Leavenworth – near the Leavenworth Ice rink
Cost: $100 – $350 a night

The Howard Johnson hotel has an outdoor swimming pool (probably not at all useful if you are visiting in December) and breakfast is included. If you are going out for the day, you can opt for a to go breakfast in a bag.

Hotel with the most Christmassy vibes (great for kids!)

Name: Bavarian Lodge
Type of accommodation: Bavarian inspired hotel
Location: Leavenworth – right in the centre of everything!
Cost: $210 – $350 a night

The Bavarian Lodge is a solid choice that isn’t too expensive and is within walking distance to the festivities. It has an amazing Christmas lights display every year and you can see the village Christmas lights from the rooms that are facing the main strip of town so the vibes are full on Christmassy! It has a hot breakfast included with cinnamon rolls, egg casseroles and savoury potatoes and an all year-round outdoor pool.

Best hotel for peace and quiet

Name: Abendblume, Leavenworth
Type of accommodation: Adults only guest-house accommodation
Location: Leavenworth – 20 minute walk out of the centre of town
Cost: $400 – $640 a night

The Abendblume is still close enough to the centre of town that you can still easily be a part of the festivities, but far enough away to make you feel like you are out in the mountains. It has a spa and wellness centre, sun terrace, and a hot tub, which is perfect for those magical winter days in December.

Most popular hotel in Leavenworth (5 stars but hard to book)

Name: The Posthotel, Leavenworth
Type of accommodation: Adults only spa-style hotel
Location: Leavenworth – located in the centre of town near the water
Cost: $700- $1,000 a night

The Posthotel is the most popular but also one of the most expensive and hard to book hotels in Leavenworth, but for good reason. The hotel has breath taking mountain views, whilst still being in the centre of town. The entire hotel is designed around ultimate relaxation and has a wellness area featuring nap rooms, various saunas and steam rooms, plunge pools, a swim-out saltwater pool and indoor and outdoor spas and more! Oh what a dream!

Where we stayed – amazing if you just want to pop into Leavenworth for a day

Name: Sky Haus
Type of accommodation: A-frame Cabin with hot tub
Location: Skykomish – around 1 hour drive from Leavenworth
Cost: $350- $900 a night

This cozy a-frame cabin was on my bucket list for years so when we visited Leavenworth for the weekend, I decided this was my chance to finally stay there. We went into Leavenworth for 1 day and enjoyed sledding, mulled wine, the Christmas lights and the festive music.

Other than Leavenworth, we also went on a hot springs adventure through the snow which was another highlight of our weekend. I’d love to go back and stay in Leavenworth itself next time because the drive in was extremely trafficky and snowy and parking was a bit of a nightmare. But eventually, we managed to get a parking spot and enjoy our time in the magical Christmas town.
